Investing in Portland's Next Generation of Talent

Eight years ago, I started Future Filmmakers with the Boys & Girls Club of Portland, Comcast NBC Universal and the film industry in Portland — a program that puts cameras in kids' hands and lets them tell their own stories. That same belief is why I'm running for City Council: Portland deserves a chance to write its own next chapter too.

Please rank Josh first, and rank other candidates you support in your remaining choices. Your first-choice vote would mean a great deal.

Meet Josh: Your Neighbor on the Ballot

Mayoral Intern of the 90s. Candidate, Portland City Councilor, District 4

Meet Josh Leake, a passionate advocate for Portland with a long history of community involvement and leadership.

Growing up in the heart of the city, Josh's journey started on an Oregonian delivery team with his Stepmom.

His first job with the city was as a swim instructor and lifeguard with Portland Parks and Recreation. His dedication to public service continued through high school, where he actively participated in a mock democratic convention, and even met president Bill Clinton.

Josh's love for Portland and its people led him to intern and volunteer for local leaders, where he gained firsthand experience in city governance and community outreach. (Mayor Vera Katz, Mayor Sam Adams.) He also volunteered for over 600 hours for first responders and the 911 dispatch center.

In addition to his political engagement, Josh is a successful entrepreneur, having founded Plum Tree Mortgage and Portland Mortgage. This local mortgage company has operated in Oregon, Washington, and California. Josh has also developed hospitals, financed multi-housing apartments, disability improvements and eco financing.

Josh co-founded the Portland Film Festival, which champions independent and underrepresented voices in cinema. Working with the Boys & Girls Club of Portland, Josh founded the Future Filmmakers program, whose story was nominated and won for a local Emmy in 2024. Josh's creative background includes producing award-winning films and being a creative director for major brands like Adidas, Intel & Wells Fargo.

As he runs for Portland City Councilor, District 4, Josh is focused on revitalizing Portland through public safety, community engagement, and economic growth, government transparency, and always committed to inclusivity and creativity.

“I believe in showing up.”

Josh stood with his friends from UFCW 555 on the picket line in NW Portland. He comes from a family of union members, and believes Portland's workers deserve a City Council that shows up for them too — not just in speeches, but in person.
